A “Whither” from the Master-Elect

Hello Brothers and WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE !!! 
First Edition

I am a little surprised and certainly humbled by the outcome of the balloting at our Communication this past week… My position - over the last several years at Roswell - has been and will remain: To do whatever & from wherever that I can to help the Lodge.

I am asking the soon-to-be Past Master, Mike Roman to stick around and help out. There has been a trend for PMs to float into the background and basically disappear….not everyone, mind you – and, I certainly understand the need to decompress for a while… Hey, go over to the Secretary’s Desk if you want to decompress!!
It IS completely different when you sit in the East and the whole room is waiting for the next word from your mouth or more important: wanting some DIRECTION or THEME for them to join in on….
My THEME for 2021 is going to be a version of Grand Master Giddens coin motto:
 “FROM WHENCE WE CAME”

Yes, in order to know where you are headed - you need to know where you were, where you came from and why you are on the path you are on… I want the Roswell Lodge to be SEEN --- OUT and ON A PATH…

I want the Lodge to be open and encouraging to Brothers, old and new, and to the Community-at-Large. I want people to KNOW that we ARE a Light on a Hill [we actually are, you know: A White Lodge Building on a Hill. Walk across the street and look back…].

These days/daze there are ‘new fangled’ modes of communicating. Horse-drawn carriages have their place… as do telephones, cellphones, the internet, FB, WiFi, Google, VENMO and Parler as well as good old word of mouth. We are going to use them all.

YOUR Lodge is older than the City of Roswell (just ask Nolan). We have a rich history here and in the State of Georgia. I intend for us to have a good exposure to interesting, stimulating Works and Lectures surrounding a kind of Masonic education. ROOTS. Know Thyself, the Psalmist said… (and yes, the “P” is silent Mr. Biden…)
I want us to enjoy a little humor along the way down ‘the Path’ – I promise to hold back my dry ‘wit’ a little. Ex: ANIMAL HOUSE - “Did the ‘Brothers’ back down when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” “No!” --- --- --- Otter says, “Leave him alone; He’s on a roll…”

We are ‘gong’ to enjoy the Fellowship, enjoy the Food and the Programs, to reach OUT to the Community and establish and re-establish former links there. I want good men to actually walk up to you and start the “2B1AskOne” chat. Wasn’t the Mayor a member of this Lodge? A State Rep? Ring the Gong!! The Masons are coming!!! We should proudly wear the insignia of Masons wherever we go…

I have been the Team Leader for the Alpharetta Old Soldiers Day Parade at the local American Legion the last couple of years. The Chairman of a TEAM who put the parade together for thousands of people to come and enjoy… Things aren’t much different here in my eyes… YOU are ‘The TEAM’; I can’t do anything alone (just ask my wife…)


I know that when Installed, I will only hold the title ‘Master’. I know that everyone on this TEAM is a ‘MASTER’: a Master Mason. YOU are the faces of the Lodge. This will be a TEAM YEAR…. I ask for your support and your prayers when on bended knee.

Gen. George S. Patton is credited with telling his Troops before a major engagement, “I’d be proud to lead you guys into _________ anytime, anywhere.” [like _____ through a goose. ]
